A reading blog for me!! Most posts come straight from my Goodreads, but I'll be making some other posts on occasion :)

Jaws by Peter BenchleyI'm a very big fan of the relationship between Ellen and Hooper, and what Hooper's death could mean in the context of traditional horror tropes (specifically the concept of a person dying as punishment for having sex). It was really cool to see a story with such a complicated female lead from this time period, especially one whose sexual desires are explored in a judgment-free environment. Though I suppose the judgment is supposed to be doled out by the reader.
Very fun book! Overall, and aside from the Ellen stuff, I have the same thoughts toward it that I have towards the movie, though I enjoyed the book much more.

Alice in Tumblr-land by Tim Manley"Her doubts and uncertainties lingered, they did, but she knew now they would never fully go away. They weren't a sign she was doing something wrong. Neither were her mistakes
Everything she'd been through, it was all just part of the story."
Werewolf Skin by R.L. Stine
The Wax Child by Olga Ravn"One of these lonely teeth, a cheek tooth extracted, which over time had traveled through my wax, along the length of my thigh, we shared in not having proper mouths, but despite this deficiency the tooth would often sing the same song from its place in my thigh: I have no power. I have no courage. I saw the lark descend. I will love in vain forever. Hidden in me are her calcium and old blood vessels and nerves. If I could eat a cake made in the shape of her left breast, I would do it. I would lick her from head to toe. If I had a human tongue, I would do it. But I am worth nothing to her. I would do anything to soften her, seduce her and allow her most secret of sighs to escape in my presence. But it will never happen, and it does not hurt. I am a tooth. My craving is my fuel, a journey in another life. My love is not made for happiness, but for longing. I am worth nothing to her."
Ravn's writing and the translation work of Aitken continue to be delicious and utterly mesmerizing. While I personally enjoyed The Employees more, The Wax Child differs from it in ways that I think will make it more palatable as a novel (ex: specific named characters and a clearer storyline) while still retaining the oddities to be found in the writing style.

A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L. Peck"There is a despair that goes deeper than existence; it runs to the marrow of consciousness, to the seat of the soul." (Page 96)
I really appreciated the stance on Hell being sameness, and how life is only so precious because of the interactions we have with others, the variety between people, and the ultimate end. Very brutal book, by design.
That being said, I can't believe Hell is racially segreated /hj

I made this mostly because I've always been curious about the fact Goodreads allows you to automatically cross-post onto Blogger. So this is mostly going to replace a reading blog I had for a short time on Tumblr, which I deactivated a while ago because I found updating it in addition to Storygraph and Goodreads a massive pain.
